Scranton Listed Among the Nation's Top Producers of Fulbright Students

Oct 21, 2009

The University of Scranton tied for second place among Master's Institutions in the nation for producing Fulbright fellowships. The list of colleges ranked as the nation's Top Producers of Fulbright Students was published in Oct. 18, 2009, issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education. This is the fifth consecutive year Scranton has made this elite ranking.

The list ranks colleges based on the number of their students who earned Fulbright fellowships for the 2009/2010 academic year. The colleges are listed in four categories based on their institution type and size. The University of Scranton was among the 29 universities in the nation listed in the "Masters Institutions" category. In this category, only one institution, Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla., with four, had more Fulbright fellows than Scranton, with three.

A total of 130 colleges are listed in all four categories. Scranton is one of 11 Jesuit universities to be cited on the four lists.

Susan Trussler, Ph.D., serves as The University of Scranton's Fulbright advisor.

The three members of The University of Scranton's class of 2009 who were awarded Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships are Amy Lee, Duryea, who received a Fulbright to Macau; Megan E. LoBue, Tobyhanna, who received a Fulbright to Germany; and Cynthia G. David, Bronx, N.Y., who received a Fulbright to Cameroon.

The three are among the 124 Scranton students who have received grants in the competitions administered by the Institute of International Education (Fulbright) and International Rotary since 1972.
