The more than 100 people who attended the Schemel Forum's University for a Day program learned that "The Best Way to Rob a Bank is to Run it." The lecture, by University of Scranton Sociology/Criminal Justice Professor David Friedrichs was one of four lectures given by distinguished professors on September 12 in the DeNaples Center.

Scranton SBDC Agribusiness Program Receives State Star Award

The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center's (SBDC) Agribusiness and Food Specialty Program was among the just 63 centers in the country, and the only center in Pennsylvania, to receive the national Association of Small Business Development Centers' 2009 State Star Award. The award, given to centers demonstrating exemplary performance and a strong commitment to small business, was presented at a reception on September 17 in Orlando, Fla., in conjunction with the organization's 29th Annual Conference.

The University of Scranton has appointed Tashika Smith as program coordinator in the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Smith's responsibilities include enhancing multicultural awareness and education among students, faculty and staff. She will be responsible for facilitating programs and workshops focusing on cultural awareness and differences.

Ann and Leo Moskovitz to Receive the 2009 McGowan Cornerstone Award

Ann and Leo Moskovitz will receive the 2009 Andrew J. McGowan Cornerstone Award at the third annual dinner, which will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, at The University of Scranton. The award recognizes regional community leaders who most reflect the late Monsignor McGowan's legacy of spirit, leadership and service.

Earl III Award for service to the university, the faculty, and the wider community. J. Bradford DeLong, Ph.D., will discuss "Macroeconomic Policy When Bubbles Matter" at The University of Scranton's 24th annual Henry George Lecture on Tuesday, September 22.
