Brains Are Source of High School Competition at University

Area high school students are encouraged to participate in the 15th annual Northeast PA Brain Bee at The University of Scranton, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 8. The competition is open to high school students in grades 9 to 12. The Brain Bee begins at 1:30 p.m. in the Loyola Science Center on the University’s campus.

The Northeast PA Brain Bee encourages high school students to study the brain and how it relates to intelligence, memory, emotions, sensations, movements, stress, aging, sleep and brain disorders. All questions for the competition will be drawn from “Brain Facts,” a book on the brain and nervous system published by the Society for Neuroscience.

Sponsored by the Neuroscience Program at the University, the Brain Bee is offered free of charge, however, registration is required to participate and must be completed on, or before Friday, Jan. 31.

The winner of the Northeast PA Brain Bee will be invited to participate in National Brain Bee, which will be held in Baltimore, Md. Aidan Crank of Stroudsburg, the 2012 winner of the Northeast PA competition, went on to win the national competition that year.
