University Host’s Middle Atlantic States Philosophy of Education Society Annual Conference

The University of Scranton will host the annual conference of the Middle Atlantic States Philosophy of Education Society (MASPES) Saturday, Feb. 8, on campus.

            MASPES members from the District of Columbia and 11 states in the Middle Atlantic and New England area will be in Scranton for the day-long conference. Speakers from Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, Texas A & M University and The University of Scranton will participate in paper presentations, workshops and roundtable discussions. Topics to be discussed include “Philosophy in Schools,” “Rethinking Games: The Disciplinary Power of Team Sports,” and “Issues Affecting Higher Education,” among others.

            The conference will begin with registration at 8:15 a.m. in McGurrin Hall, followed by opening remarks by Debra Pellegrino, Ed.D., dean of the University’s Panuska College of Professional Studies.

Darryl De Marzio, Ph.D., associate professor of education at The University of Scranton, is immediate past president of MASPES. University alumnus Timothy Ignaffo of the Teachers College at Columbia University served at the program committee chair for the conference.
