University of Scranton Accounting Professor Douglas M. Boyle, D.B.A., CPA, CMA, was named the Kania School of Management’s Alperin Teaching Fellow for 2015 to 2018.

The three-year Alperin Teaching Fellow Award was established in 1999 to recognize outstanding teaching in the Kania School of Management. Funding is provided by an endowment established in 1980 through a gift from Irwin E. Alperin, Joel M. Alperin, and Myer Alperin and their families.

Dr. Boyle has received multiple awards for teaching and scholarship. Earlier this year, he was presented with the Outstanding Accounting Educator Award from the Pennsylvania Institute of Public Accountants (PICPA). In addition, Dr. Boyle has twice earned the Kania School of Management Teacher of the Year award. He also earned the University’s Provost Excellence Awards for the Scholarship of Teaching in 2014 and for Scholarly Publication in 2012.

In the last two years, two of Dr. Boyle’s manuscripts, co-authored with other University of Scranton accounting professors, received the Institute of Management Accountants’ Lybrand Medal (silver and bronze). The award annually recognizes just three “outstanding articles of the year” of all the manuscripts published in the Institute of Management Accountants’ Strategic Finance and Management Accounting Quarterly journals.

Dr. Boyle serves as chair of the Accounting Department and as the president of the Faculty Senate at the University. He also serves on various boards for Allied Services Integrated Health System, including as vice-chairman of its Foundation Board and as chairman of its Skilled Nursing Division.

Dr. Boyle holds a bachelor’s degree from The University of Scranton, a MBA from Columbia University and a doctorate from Kennesaw State University. A Certified Public Accountant as well as a Certified Management Accountant, he has more than 25 years of industry executive experience.
