Princeton Review Ranks Scranton’s Science Labs, Campus Food Among Best in Nation
The Princeton Review selected The University of Scranton among “The Best 382 Colleges” in the nation, as well as among the nation’s “Best Science Labs” (No. 9), “Best Campus Food” (No. 15), “Everyone Plays Intramural Sports” (No. 18) and “Most Religious Students” (No. 20).
For the 16th consecutive year The Princeton Review included Scranton in its annual guidebook of select colleges that “are the best in the nation, academically.” This also marks the third consecutive year, The Princeton Review has ranked The University of Scranton’s science labs among the 10 best in the country, coming in at No. 9 in 2018 edition of the “Best 382 Colleges” guidebook, which published Aug. 1.
The Princeton Review’s guide is well known for its “Best of” lists of the “Top 20” colleges in 62 categories. In its 2018 edition, The Princeton Review also ranked Scranton in its lists of the “Best Campus Food” (No. 15), “Everyone Plays Intramural Sports” (No. 18) and “Most Religious Students” (No. 20). The rankings are based “entirely” on surveys of students at colleges selected by The Princeton Review for inclusion in its guidebook, which includes just 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges and universities.
In addition, the guidebook includes detailed profiles of each the “382 Best Colleges.” Scranton’s profile notes that the University has friendly students and caring, knowledgeable and approachable faculty members. The Princeton Review also states Scranton “students applaud the ‘new improvements constantly being made to update campus including residence halls and academic buildings.’”
Recent major capital improvements to Scranton’s academic facilities include the $85 million, 200,000-square-foot Loyola Science Center, which is one of the most innovative science buildings in the country, and the $47.5 million Edward R. Leahy Jr. Hall, which puts the best simulation environments, applied-science laboratories, equipment and technology directly in the hands of students and faculty.
In addition to The Princeton Review, Scranton was nationally recognized among the 26 “Healthiest Colleges in the U.S” in a ranking published in 2016 by Greatist.com, an online source for health and fitness information. Colleges were recognized for having exceptional food, fitness facilities, health services and health-related programming. Annually, Scranton’s intramural sports program runs 22 leagues that cover 14 sports. The University’s Campus Ministries Office also offers numerous retreats and programing for students throughout the year.
The 2018 edition of The Princeton Review’s college guidebook became available on Aug. 1.
