Biology Students Visit McNichols Plaza

On March 22, 2018, University of Scranton biology students visited the fourth grade at McNichols Plaza Elementary School as part of an ongoing partnership with Scranton School District. Dr. George Gomez of the Biology Department, as well as over 15 of his students, went to the school with a plan to focus on embryology. The science demos centered on what animals look like when they are young, as well as throughout their life cycle. This included insects, live chicks, crayfish, mice and chick embryos.

For the fourth graders at McNichols Plaza, the study of embryology is something that they have been learning about in school. The students recently had some baby animals of their own, with 18 chicks hatching a few weeks ago. This event is part of an ongoing initiative to introduce STEAM-based education in the school in our area.
