New Academic Year Events

Each year, the University Community traditionally marks the beginning of the new academic year through a series of events.
New Academic Year Events
Saturday, Aug. 25

Move-in for residential students of the Class of 2022
Move-in runs from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in various locations near the first year student residence halls.  If you have never seen the well-organized move-in process on our campus, you should really try to experience this amazing time.

New Student Convocation
You are invited to join us for the formal induction of the Class of 2022 into the academic community. The event will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Byron Center. For those of you who plan to join the academic procession, you will need to arrive at 2:30 p.m. in the Long Center Lobby with your Academic Regalia.  Hats are not required. The procession will begin at 2:45 p.m.

New Student Mass
Everyone is welcome to attend the New Student Mass at 4:30 p.m. in the Long Center.  This is the first Mass of the academic calendar.

Friday, Aug. 31

Fall Convocation is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. in the McDade Center for Literary and Performing Arts.  The program features the introduction of new faculty; presentation of the John L. Earl, III Distinguished Service Award; and the President’s address.  A reception will follow the Convocation in Brennan Hall 509.

Thursday, Sept. 6

Mass of the Holy Spirit will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. in the Byron Center.  Note that again this year we will forego faculty robing for the Mass.  Many faculty and staff attend with their department colleagues or students or are just dashing in from class.  All should be aware that the Mass is for all members of the University Community.  The Mass will be followed by a picnic on the DeNaples Patio.
