About

There's so much going on at The University of Scranton. How can you find out about it all?

The answer is here. Royal News.

Royal News, the official University of Scranton news site, features stories, publications, newsletters and announcements from around campus. Stories are organized by section so you can find the most up-to-date news that's relevant to you.

News is updated on the Royal News website on a daily basis, so check back often to find out what's happening on and around campus, as well as with the alumni community. You'll also get a glimpse at our social media channels.

Published by the office of External Affairs and distributed via email on Wednesdays, the Royal News e-newsletter is sent to all students, faculty and staff, as well as interested parents. On the first Wednesday of the month, the newsletter includes alumni news, and is distributed to alumni who opt-in.

FAQ:

Who can submit a story?

If you're a member of a department or organization on campus, you can submit a story to us by emailing royalnews@scranton.edu.

Want to submit something  behalf of your University department or organization? You've landed at the right place!

You can submit stories about anything from student interns to faculty research to a recent lecture.

Please, no opinion pieces or articles about unaffiliated University events.

The rules:

  • Include a title.
  • Include a one-sentence teaser summing up your story.
  • Write your story in a narrative voice.
  • Keep articles between 150-650 words.
  • All articles require a photo. (1280 x 726)*
  • Only submit your story once.

We will make every effort to publish your story in a timely manner, but we do reserve the right to edit your article for grammar or style. We also reserve the right to reject an article.

Please note,  these rules are meant only to submit articles, not announcements or events. See below for submitting announcements or events.

*If possible, please size and optimize your photo with Sqoosh.

If you're an alumnus and you want to submit a story idea, you can email alumni@scranton.edu.

How do I submit an announcement?

If you're a member of a department or organization on campus, you can submit an announcement by sending an email to royalnews@scranton.edu or by clicking the Royal News button when submitting an announcement in the portal. Send any accompanying photo as a .jpg or .png to royalnews@scranton.edu.

How do I submit an event?

You can submit your campus event here and it will appear on the University calendar.

What's the difference between a story and an announcement?

Good question! A story has a narrative and usually is about an event or updates us about something that has already occurred. An announcement is to get the word out about a future event but requires more information than what would be on the calendar.

What's in the different sections?

New This Week, spotlighted at the top of the home page, presents five articles from the Latest News section that includes University updates written and compiled by the News and Media Relations team. Also, find articles from Royal News contributors (student correspondents, too!) about the campus and community.

Two new sections offer a curated selection of all that is UncommonlyUS: Top Stories and Trending Topics, which feature points of Royal pride, upcoming opportunities to visit campus, employment forecasts and University pathways to high-demand careers.

Athletics and alumni news have dedicated sections, as do Royals in the Media, Announcements and Events

You can still find news grouped by our audience categories - alumni, athletics, community, faculty, general, staff and student - by using the "Categories" top navigation menu.

And, stories from recent University publications, and the latest videos and posts from our social media sites, can be found at the bottom of the home page.

The e-newsletter brings you more content in a streamlined format.

I publish a newsletter on campus. How do I get it in Royal News?

Email us at royalnews@scranton.edu when your newsletter is published. We choose a few to feature each week.

I want to unsubscribe to Royal News. How do I do that?

To unsubscribe, just send an email with the subject "unsubscribe" to  royalnews@scranton.edu
