Lecture at The University of Scranton to Address Bioethics in Health Professions Education

Oct 25, 2008

Robert M. D’Alessandri, M.D., president and dean of The Commonwealth Medical College, will deliver the fourth annual Alpha Sigma Nu Alumni Club lecture at The University of Scranton on Oct. 25, 2008, 5 p.m. in the Moskovitz Theater of the Patrick and Margaret DeNaples Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Dr. D’Alessandri’s topic is “Bioethics in Health Professions Education.” According to Dr. Tom Hogan, professor of psychology at The University of Scranton and institutional representative for the Alpha Sigma Nu Alumni Club, Dr. D’Alessandri will give his views on how the new medical college will incorporate bioethics into its curriculum.

Dr. D’Alessandri has worked for the past two years on developing The Commonwealth Medical College from the point where it was a glint in the eye of local leaders, through multiple layers of approval by national medical organizations, to its anticipated opening next year.

The new medical college, the first to launch in Pennsylvania in a half-century, will eventually serve more than 500 students and 175 full-time equivalent faculty, with its main campus in Scranton and affiliated clinical campuses in Wilkes-Barre and Williamsport.

The lecture is co-sponsored by Alpha Sigma Nu, the national Jesuit honor society, Alumni Club of Northeastern Pennsylvania and The University of Scranton Health Professions Organization, the university’s club for students preparing for advanced education in the health professions.
