Internet2 Symposium Set at University of Scranton

The University of Scranton will host an Internet2 Symposium and User Group Meeting on Jan. 22, 2009, to demonstrate applications for the high-speed research and education network.

Internet2 applications to be demonstrated include the Challenger eMissions Program offered by the Challenger Space Station that allows students to virtually assume the role of an emergency response team faced with a hurricane or a volcanic eruption. Participants will also see a demonstration of the Virtual Reality Development Lab system that allows student to develop 3-dimensional, realistic, virtual environments. In addition, University of Scranton professors will demonstrate the ways in which Internet2 are being used to introduce neuroscience to elementary school students, and Riverside High School teachers will discuss their use of Internet2 to create an authentic learning environment.

The symposium, sponsored by IntegraONE and Cisco, is offered free of charge to representatives from primary and secondary schools, universities, government, heath care, libraries, museums, biotech and high technology companies, and economic development agencies.

The University of Scranton was selected by the University of Pennsylvania to be the Internet2 area aggregator for the MAGPI network in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wayne, Pike, Wyoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna and Bradford counties.
