Scranton Wins Best Faculty-Student Research Award

     University of Scranton student Benjamin Redan and James Loven, laboratory equipment manager, recently received the Best Faculty-Student Research Award at the third annual Northeastern Pennsylvania Faculty Symposium of the Institute for Public Policy and Economic Development.  Their presentation was titled “A Low-Cost Passive Solar Array Reflector Project Proposal.” The presentations were evaluated on the basis of their organization and expression, scholarship, and potential for improving the quality of life in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

     Redan is a junior biochemistry, cell and molecular biology major from Tunkhannock. Both he and Loven were among the team of students and faculty members that developed the University’s new solar-powered energy system that helps supply energy for the lights and security cameras on the Madison Avenue Parking Lot. 

     The Institute for Public Policy & Economic Development is a research-based think tank formed by a consortium of higher education institutions, business, non-profit and economic development providers in northeast Pennsylvania.
