Scranton Plans Annual Diversity Fair
The University of Scranton’s Office of Equity and Diversity will host its annual Diversity Fair on Thursday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on the fourth floor of the DeNaples Center. The event, which is free of charge and open to the public, includes presentations, music, art, Latin cuisine, activities and information booths featuring an array of academic programs and community organizations. The fair also includes a special presentation by Antonio Flores, Ph.D., president of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU), at 11:30 a.m. in the Moskovitz Theater.
Dr. Flores became the third president and CEO of HACU in 1996. HACU is a national organization that represents more than 450 colleges and universities that collectively serve two-thirds of the more than 2 million Hispanic students in U.S. higher education in 32 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Dr. Flores responsibilities at HACU include the overall leadership, public and community relations, policy formulation and advocacy, financial and investment oversight, and strategic planning.
In addition, the event will feature the music and artwork of Native American Frank LittleBear, of Cree Nation heritage, who is a lecturer of Native American culture, musician and artist, and has performed internationally. Also, Enrique Makanaxeiti Montalvo, a Taino artist, will conduct hands-on art workshops throughout the day starting on the hour. Registration is required to participate in the workshops.
