Jul 11, 2011

The University of Scranton College Democrats chapter were among just four in the nation to receive the “Rising Star Chapter Award” at the annual College Democrats of America Conference held in June at George Washington University, Washington, D.C.

The Rising Star Award is given to individuals, chapters and state federations that were extremely successful in their first or second year being involved with the national organization, the College Democrats of America. The accomplishments of the Jesuit university’s chapter this year included increasing their student membership and their efforts to increase voter registration.

The University of Florida College Democrats, Gainesville, Fla., Trinity Washington University College Democrats, Washington, D.C., and the Williams College Democrats, Williamstown. Mass., were the other chapters receiving the chapter award along with The University of Scranton College Democrats.

The University of Scranton’s chapter was also named “Best New Chapter of the Year” at the Pennsylvania College Democrats’ statewide convention in April.
