Staff Appointments at The University of Scranton

The University of Scranton announced several staff appointments during the spring semester.

Joseph H. Dreisbach, Ph.D., has been named associate provost for academic affairs at The University of Scranton. As associate provost, his responsibilities include chairing the committees on faculty development and faculty research, as well as coordinating faculty hiring and the University’s learning outcomes assessment among other duties. 

Dr. Dreisbach’s more than three decades of service at The University of Scranton began in 1978 when he joined the faculty of the Chemistry Department, a department which he chaired from 1991 to 1997. Dr. Dreisbach served as the dean of the University’s College of Arts and Sciences from 1997 until 2008. Since July 2008, he served as the University’s interim associate provost for academic affairs. He oversaw the development of the plans for the 200,000-square-foot unified science center, which is currently under construction.

Dr. Dreisbach served as the University’s liaison with The Commonwealth Medical College and for the biotech development programs of Lackawanna and Luzerne counties. He has served on numerous committees at Scranton and currently chairs the Scranton Inclusion Committee.

A resident of Clarks Summit, Dr. Dreisbach earned his bachelor’s degree from LaSalle University, Philadelphia, and his master’s and doctorate degrees from Lehigh University, Bethlehem.

Meg Hambrose has been named director of corporate and foundation relations at The University of Scranton. In this role, she is responsible for cultivating and sustaining relationships with corporations and foundations, while working to match University faculty and staff expertise with corporate interests.

Hambrose joined The University of Scranton in 2008, serving as the coordinator for stewardship and scholarship.

She serves as an Eucharistic minister at The Church of St. Gregory’s in Clarks Green.

A resident of South Abington Township, Hambrose earned her bachelor’s degree from The University of Scranton.

Julie Bialkowski has been named director of parent relations and class affinity at The University of Scranton. In this role, she works closely with other departments at the University to create parent-communications, and to help parents become involved in the life of the University. She also oversees the University’s Class Affinity initiatives aimed at helping students of the same class year create and maintain connections after graduation. 


Bialkowski joined the staff of the Alumni Office at The University of Scranton in 2006. She most recently served as the associate director of alumni relations.

A resident of Old Forge, Bialkowski earned her bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University.

Julie Schumacher Cohen has been named director of the Office of Community Relations at The University of Scranton. In this role, she will serve as a liaison between the University and the community, working closely with neighborhood and downtown groups, community organizations and local government bodies in the greater Scranton area.

Schumacher Cohen serves as a member of the organization committee of the Main Street Scranton Tomorrow program, the Board of Directors of Metro Action at the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, and as community partners and Kids Fest coordinator for the annual Pages & Places Book Festival.

Schumacher Cohen has worked for a variety of nonprofit organizations in the area of community and government relations, including most recently as deputy director, and earlier legislative coordinator, of Churches for Middle East Peace, a coalition of 24 national church bodies in Washington, D.C. Previously, she worked in New York, N.Y., directing cross-cultural programs at U.S. Servas, Inc., and as a community outreach/public policy associate for Citizens Union Foundation. 

A resident of Scranton’s Hill section, Schumacher Cohen earned a bachelor’s degree in political studies and English literature from Gordon College, Wenham, Mass. She has served as a fellow for the Next Generation Project of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and is currently completing a Master of Public Administration at Villanova University.
