John Quiñones, Emmy Award-winning co-anchor of ABC’s “Primetime,” will present the keynote speech as part of The University of Scranton’s fourth annual Diversity Fair on Thursday, Nov. 3. His lecture – titled “What Would You Do?” – will take place at 7 p.m. in the McIlhenny Ballroom of the DeNaples Center on campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

During his 25 years at ABC News, Quiñones has also served as a correspondent for the network’s “20/20” news magazine. His recent work includes a series of reports also titled “What Would You Do?”. In these reports, which test human nature through a hidden camera, actors present controversial scenarios to elicit responses from unsuspecting bystanders. Scenarios have focused on interracial couples, challenges facing gays and lesbians, and elderly abuse, among others.

Quiñones has also extensively covered a religious sect in northern Arizona that forces its young female members to take part in polygamous marriages. Other recent reports include going undercover with a hidden camera to reveal how clinics were performing unnecessary surgical procedures as part of a major nationwide insurance scam. He followed along with a group of would-be Mexican immigrants as they attempted to cross into the United States. The seven-time Emmy Award winner also traveled to Israel for a CINE award-winning report about suicide bombers.

The Diversity Fair Lecture is co-sponsored by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Diversity Education Consortium, The University of Scranton’s Office of Equity and Diversity and The University of Scranton Programming Board.

In addition to the lecture, the University’s Diversity Fair, themed “Move It! The Exploration of Human Rights Movements,” includes events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the McIlhenny Ballroom of the DeNaples Center, which will allow participants to explore the power of social movements to advance the causes of democracy, justice and human rights.
