University Makes Forbes’ List of ‘America’s Best Colleges’ for Fifth Year
For the fifth consecutive year, The University of Scranton ranks among the elite schools selected for Forbes magazine’s online listing of “America’s Best Colleges.”
Forbes magazine’s online listing of “America’s Best Colleges” ranked The University of Scranton No. 293 among the 650 universities in the nation selected. Forbes does not categorize schools by size or institution type in its overall ranking, which became public Aug. 2. Scranton is among 25 Jesuit universities and 43 colleges in Pennsylvania to make the national ranking. This is the fifth consecutive year that The University of Scranton has been listed.
Another list published by Forbes ranks Scranton No. 228 among “Private Colleges in America.”
The ranking, compiled for Forbes by The Center for College Affordability and Productivity, is based on a dozen factors that seek to evaluate schools in five general areas: post-graduate success; student satisfaction; student debt; four-year graduation rate; and competitive awards won by students, such as prestigious scholarships and fellowships like the Rhodes, Marshall and Fulbright. Sources of data for the analysis include postings on RateMyProfessor.com (17.5 percent); listings of alumni in Who’s Who in America (10 percent); salaries of alumni posted on Payscale.com (15 percent); the average four-year, federal student-loan debt (10 percent); four-year graduation rates (8.75 percent); predicted versus actual four-year graduation rates (2.5 percent); and an analysis of students earning nationally competitive awards (7.5 percent), among other factors.
