University of Scranton Appoints New Faculty Members

The University of Scranton has appointed 12 new full-time faculty members for the 2012-2013 academic year.
Jessica M. Barber, Ph.D., was named lecturer of psychology. Barber was previously employed as a graduate teaching assistant at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Va. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and French from Lebanon Valley College and a master’s degree and doctorate in experimental psychology (social) from Virginia Commonwealth University. She held a doctoral internship with the American Psychological Association’s Public Interest Government Relations Office in Washington, D.C., and has made a number of academic presentations at psychology conferences throughout the nation. She participated in the 2010 Summer Institute of Political Psychology at Stanford University, Stanford, Calif. She resides in Scranton.

Barber
James Boyle was named faculty specialist in the Department of Accounting in The University of Scranton’s Kania School of Management. Boyle has taught undergraduate and MBA classes part-time at The University of Scranton since 2009. He is also an internal auditor for The University, a position he has held since 1999. Boyle received a bachelor’s in accounting and an MBA in finance from The University of Scranton. He is a Certified Public Accountant. He is pursuing a doctorate in business administration at Kennesaw State University, Kennesaw, Ga. He resides in Scranton. Boyle
Jeremy R. Brees, Ph.D., was named assistant professor of management and marketing. Dr. Brees taught and earned his doctorate at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla. He has published research on personal accountability, attributions, psychological entitlement and abusive supervision in such journals as the Journal of Vocational Behavior and the Journal of Managerial Psychology.  He has a bachelor’s degree in business management from Appalachian State University, Boone, N.C., and an MBA from the University of Arizona, Tucson, Ariz. Scott P. Breloff, Ph.D. cand., was named assistant professor of exercise science and sport. Breloff was a graduate teaching fellow at the University of Oregon, Eugene, Ore., where he served as a lead instructor, lecturer, laboratory coordinator, teaching assistant and research associate. He also served as a graduate assistant and research assistant at the University of Mississippi, Oxford, Miss. Breloff has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, and a master’s degree in exercise science from the University of Mississippi, Oxford, Miss. He will earn his Ph.D. from the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon with a concentration in biomechanics following his defense in October. He resides in Scranton.

 

Breloff

Ann E. “Nancy” Cummings was named lecturer in the Operations and Information Management Department. Cummings was an adjunct professor for Accounting and Marketing/Management departments at The University of Scranton’s Kania School of Management. She was also an adjunct instructor at Keystone College. Most recently, she was employed by Epic Industries, Clarks Summit, and ACE Consulting, Clarks Summit, as an accounting, accounting software and management. Previously, she worked for Allied Services, Inc., Scranton and Coopers and Lybrand, Boston, Mass. Cummings received a bachelor’s in economics and accounting from the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, Mass., and an MBA from The University of Scranton.

Michael W. Fennie, Ph.D., was named assistant professor of chemistry. Dr. Fennie was a senior research investigator in medical chemistry at Sanofi-Aventis US, Bridgewater, N.J. He also taught and performed research at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, and Canisius College, Buffalo, N.Y. Dr. Fennie’s work has been published in several scientific journals and letters. He received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Canisius College and a doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He resides in Dunmore. Fennie
Jason M. Graham, Ph.D., was named instructor of mathematics. Graham received a bachelor’s in mathematics from the University of Houston, Houston, Texas, a master’s degree in applied and computational mathematics from Southern Methodist University, University Park, Texas, a master’s degree in mathematics and a doctorate in applied mathematics and computational sciences from the from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. Dr. Graham has several years of teaching experience, most recently as an instructor for intermediate algebra and a teaching assistant for partial differential equations with numerical methods at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. He resides in Dunmore.

Clancy Harrison was named lecturer in the Exercise Science and Sport Department. Harrison previously taught classes in nutrition and kinesiology at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus. She also served as proprietor and registered dietitian at Healthy Living Lifestyles, LLC, Dallas. She received a bachelor’s degree in nutrition from the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, and a master’s degree in nutrition from the College of Saint Elizabeth, Morristown, N.J. Mary A. Justis was named lecturer in community health education in the Exercise Science and Sport Department. Justis previously taught at Marywood University, as an instructor in the Health and Physical Education Department and served as a supervisor for student teachers in health and physical education students. She also taught at Penn State Worthington Scranton Campus and Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus, Lehman. She received a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education at Penn State University, University Park, and a master’s degree in kinesiology at Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas. She resides in Dalton.

Justis
Michael D. Ross, D.H.S.c., was named assistant professor of physical therapy. Some of Dr. Ross’s recent faculty appointments include director of the U.S. Air Force Medicine Training Programs, Medical Education and Training Campus, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; graduate program director and associate professor for the Transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, Provo, Utah; and adjunct professor at the U.S. Army - Baylor University Doctoral Program in Physical Therapy, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. He received a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from Daemen College, Amherst, N.Y., a master’s degree in education from the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio, a master’s degree in physical therapy and a doctorate of health science in physical therapy from the University of Indianapolis, Indianapolis, Ind. He completed a physical therapy fellowship in orthopaedic manual therapy and musculoskeletal primary care from Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Vallejo, Calif. He resides in Gouldsboro.

 

Ross

 

Nicholas P. Truncale was named faculty specialist within the physics and electrical engineering department. Truncale previously taught at The University of Scranton as an adjunct physics and electrical engineering professor and in the Dunmore school district as a high school math and physics teacher. He was also employed by Lockheed Martin, King of Prussia, as a systems engineer and by Epsilon, Inc., Pensacola, Fla., as an instructor for the Joint Cyber Analysis Course at the Corry Naval Station. Truncale earned a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in secondary education from The University of Scranton. He resides in Scranton.

Patricia Wisniewski was named lecturer in the Department of Occupational Therapy. Wisniewski serves as an adjunct faculty member at Misericordia University, Dallas. She has worked as the acting director of occupational therapy at Clarks Summit State Hospital, Clarks Summit. She currently works as an occupational therapist for AllCare Home Health Services, Taylor. Wisniewski received a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in occupational therapy from Misericordia University, Dallas. She resides in Throop.    Wisniewski
