University of Scranton Student Receives McGowan Cornerstone Scholarship

The Luzerne Foundation has awarded a 2012 Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Cornerstone Scholarship to University of Scranton student Kevin Dermody ’13.  

An economics and history double major, Dermody is a member of the Business Leadership Honors Program at The University of Scranton’s Kania School of Management. He holds many leadership roles on campus, including serving as the president of the Pre-Law Society, Omicron Delta Epsilon (economics honor society) and Habitat for Humanity. He is also a member of Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit honor society), Phi Alpha Theta (history honor society) and Alpha Lambda Delta (freshman honor society). 

Dermody, Elmhurst, also participates in the business club, university ministries and intramural sports teams. He remains active in the local community as an adult volunteer with the Boy Scouts of America, as well as a volunteer with Marley’s Mission, an equestrian-based therapy program for children. A graduate of Scranton Preparatory School, Dermody hopes to return to his northeastern Pennsylvania roots after law school.

The Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Cornerstone Scholarship is awarded annually to students who are pursuing their education at one of the regional academic institutions to which McGowan had devoted his service.
