Pursuit of Happiness Explored by Economist

Princeton University Economics Professor Angus Deaton, Ph.D., will discuss “The Pursuit of Happiness” at The University of Scranton’s spring Henry George Lecture Thursday, May 2, at 4 p.m. in the Moskovitz Theater of the DeNaples Center. The lecture is free of charge and open to the public.

Dr. Deaton’s research includes poverty and inequality around the world and the determinants of health and well-being, particularly on relationships with income, both domestically and internationally.

Dr. Deaton is the Dwight D. Eisenhower Professor of Economics and International Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. He has taught at Cambridge University. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, of the British Academy, of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and of the Econometric Society, and was the first recipient of the society’s Frisch Medal for Applied Econometrics.

The Henry George Lecture Series, the preeminent public lecture series on economics in Northeastern Pennsylvania, is presented by the Economics and Finance Department at the University and the campus chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, an international honor society for economics. The series honors the 19th century American economist and social reformer. Financial support for the Henry George program is provided by a grant from the Robert Schalkenbach Foundation.
