University Presents 46th Annual Noel Night Concert

The University of Scranton Singers, joined by trumpeter Mark Gould and harpist Andre Tarantiles, will present the 46th annual Noel Night on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Houlihan-McLean Center.

The performance begins at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 6:45 p.m. Prelude music will begin at 7:05 featuring various small instrumental ensembles. Admission to the evening is free and open to the public, as The University of Scranton’s Christmas gift to the community. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The choir will perform works by Mark Sirett, Ivo Antognini, Stephen Paulus, Hubert Bird, Jester Hairston, Benjamin Britten and Vaclav Nelhybel, the late composer-in-residence at The University of Scranton. During the course of the performance, the Nativity Martyrology and St. Luke Nativity Narrative will be read, a yearly tradition at Noel Night.

Gould and Tarantiles, both of whom are acclaimed musicians, have performed at The University of Scranton many times in the past. Most recently, Gould, the former principal trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera, directed the New York Trumpet Ensemble in concert this past September and performed with the university’s concert choir and jazz band in October and November. Tarantiles, who is one of the most sought after free-lance harpists in the northeast and is particularly well known for his work with opera orchestras in NY, last performed with the choir in 2006.
