Students Organize Annual Project to Spruce Up Scranton

Apr 11, 2014

More than 300 students representing University athletic teams, academic clubs and volunteer groups will participate in the University’s spring “Street Sweep” on Sunday, April 13. Student volunteer will plant flowers in downtown city planters and “sweep” (clean-up) streets of the 400 blocks Madison through Taylor Avenues as well as in and around the Nay Aug Park greenhouse.

The event is organized by the University’s Student Government in cooperation with its Community Relations Office and community partners: Penn State Master Gardeners and Scranton Tomorrow, who together maintain the downtown planters throughout the year; and the Greenhouse Project, which runs the Nay Aug Park greenhouse. In addition, the Downtown Scranton Spring Planter Beautification Project is supported by a grant from Pennsylvania American Water.
