University of Scranton student Jillian Garzon was selected to receive one of just 16 American Advertising Federation Stickell Internships for the summer of 2014. She was chosen from a competitive pool of candidates nominated by American Advertising Federation college chapters from across the country.

The Stickell Internship program was established in 1989 to honor the late Vance L. Stickell, former executive vice president, marketing, for the Los Angeles Times. The program is intended to raise awareness and understanding of advertising processes and business ethics among future advertising professionals.

Each year, just more than a dozen students are selected from a national pool of candidates to receive 10-week internships at U.S. media organizations, advertising agencies, and client and supplier companies. The interns receive a stipend in addition to either a scholarship or assistance with housing.

Garzon, who is a junior at the University from Howell, N.J., will intern at IBM in Armonk, N.Y.

A Dean’s List student, Garzon is majoring in communication and has a minor in psychology. She serves as secretary of the University’s student Advertising Club and as advertising manager for The Aquinas, the student newspaper.
