Traffic Update for June 7 for Construction of Center for Rehabilitation Education
Vehicular traffic patterns will change on the 200 block of Jefferson Avenue on Saturday, June 7, for the assembly and positioning of a 200-ton crawler crane needed to erect the steel frame of the eight-story center for rehabilitation education on The University of Scranton’s campus.
The Scranton Police Department approved a request to temporarily close two right lanes of the 200 block of Jefferson Avenue adjacent to the construction site. Vehicular traffic will be reduced to one lane traveling north and one lane traveling south on Saturday from 6 a.m. to approximately 8 p.m.
Once the crane is in place, vehicular traffic patterns will return to the normal construction lanes with one traffic lane closed along Linden Street and Jefferson Avenue adjacent to the construction site.
The crane will remain on the construction site through August 1 to erect the steel frame of the building. During this period, the pedestrian walkway alongside the construction area on the west side Jefferson Avenue will be closed and an alternate pedestrian traffic route will be opened along the Elm Park Church side of Jefferson Avenue with a crosswalk to McGurrin Hall.
Traffic flaggers will be posted at the crosswalk Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to assist with pedestrian crossing. A university police officer will be stationed at the crosswalk from 9:30 p.m. to 10:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings when classes scheduled in McGurrin Hall are dismissed.
Access to the Leahy Clinic for the Uninsured is available by entering Kressler Court at Spruce Street.
