Jay Sullivan, author of “Raising Gentle Men: Lives at the Orphanage Edge,” delivered this year’s University of Scranton Ignatian Values in Action lecture last month on campus. Three of the people who were featured in his book – Dr. Thomas Check, Irene DeGroot Thompson, and Desmond Plunkett – also spoke at the event. “Raising Gentle Men” was selected for this year’s Royal Reads Program, making it required reading for the University’s incoming class of 2018.
