Scranton Brass Orchestra to Perform Sunday, January 3

The 28-member Scranton Brass Orchestra will perform at The University of Scranton’s Houlihan-McLean Center on Sunday, Jan. 3, at 7:30 p.m. The performance is free of charge and open to the public.

The Scranton Brass Orchestra will perform on Sunday, Jan. 3, at 7:30 p.m. in The University of Scranton’s Houlihan-McLean Center. Admission is free, and the performance is open to the public. Doors open at 6:45, and seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis.

The Scranton Brass Orchestra is under the direction of co-founder and director Cheryl Y. Boga and is presented by Performance Music at The University of Scranton. Now in its fifth season, it is a fully professional 28-member ensemble comprised of brass and percussion players/teachers from the region.

The group’s performances are free of charge and open to the public, and feature nationally and internationally acclaimed guests, including many of the most respected brass players of our time. The group made its debut before hundreds of audience members in June 2011, and has since garnered acclaim from both audiences and musicians alike.

A resident of Chinchilla, Boga serves as the director of Performance Music at The University of Scranton, a position she has held for 35 years, and also maintains an active guest conducting and consulting schedule. Her responsibilities at Scranton include the University’s Bands, Performance Choirs, String Ensembles, Guest Artist Concert Series, Nelhybel Collection and World Premiere Composition Series, (now in its 33rd year) which she co-founded with the late Vaclav Nelhybel.
