Forbes Ranks The University of Scranton Among Nation’s Best Values in College Education
For the 10th consecutive year, Forbes ranked The University of Scranton among “America’s Top Colleges” for 2017, based on its analysis that seeks to evaluate a school’s “return on investment” or “value.”
Forbes ranked The University of Scranton among “America’s Top Colleges,” a listing of just 660 colleges in the U.S. that deliver the best “return on investment” or “value.” The 2017 ranking marks the 10th consecutive year that Forbes has included Scranton in the national ranking based on its evaluation of “quality academics and student satisfaction, on-time graduation rates, low student debt and high earning potential and career success.”
Forbes ranked Scranton No. 257 in the listing published online Aug. 2. Just 41 colleges in Pennsylvania were ranked. Scranton and King’s College were the only two local colleges listed.
The methodology used for the ranking, which Forbes changed this year, examined multiple factors, which included graduation rates, average federal student loan debt, student loan default rates and “post-graduate success,” as measured by salaries reported in PayScale, the U.S. Department of Education’s “College Scorecard” and alumni who were nationally recognized in lists such as Forbes’ “400” or “30 under 30,” among other factors. Data examined also included retention rates and related rankings published by Niche.com to evaluate the “student experience,” and the percentage of graduates earn doctoral degrees and the number of prestigious fellowships won by students, including Fulbright and Goldwater scholarships, to measure “academic success,” among other factors.
Earlier this year, Forbes also ranked Scranton among “America’s Best Value Colleges” in its 2017 list of just “300 schools that deliver the best bang for the tuition buck based on tuition costs, school quality, post-grad earnings, student debt and graduation success.”
