The University of Scranton Welcomes Class of 2021
More than 40 members of The University of Scranton’s incoming class of 2021 arrived earlier this week to participate in FIRST (Freshmen Involved in Reflective Service Together), a reflective service immersion program organized by Campus Ministries’ Center for Service and Social Justice. The University will welcome more than 1,200 incoming undergraduate, graduate and transfer students this weekend with a number of activities, including a Back to School Bonanza community event Sunday at The Marketplace at Steamtown. The University of Scranton will welcome more than 1,200 incoming students this weekend, including more than 910 members of its undergraduate class of 2021, more than 275 graduate students and more than 50 transfer students. Fall semester classes begin Monday, Aug. 21, at the University.
The University’s undergraduate class of 2021, selected from a pool of more than 10,000 applicants, has an average SAT score of 1,187. Incoming students represent 15 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, the Federated States of Micronesia, Ireland and Vietnam. Approximately 22 percent of the class is from Northeast Pennsylvania. The most common majors chosen by members of the incoming class are accounting, biology, nursing, occupational therapy and “undeclared.”
The class of 2021 also includes 94 legacy children whose parents and/or grandparents are University of Scranton alumni.
This weekend’s Fall Welcome will include a New Student Convocation, Mass, a class photo, residence hall and commuter meetings and an alumni legacy reception. Members of the incoming class will also help area children and their families prepare for the upcoming school year by volunteering at the Back to School Bonanza on Sunday, Aug. 20, from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Marketplace at Steamtown.
In addition to the undergraduate class of 2021, the University’s incoming graduate students, online and on-campus, represent several states and foreign countries, including Belize, Ghana, India, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
