Nurses Impact on Quality of Patient Care Examined

        Nurses Impact on Quality, a one-day professional development program, will be offered on November 6 at The University of Scranton beginning at 8 a.m.

        The focus of the program is to present current trends in nursing that affect patient quality care. The keynote speaker is Robyn Cheung, RN, Ph.D., research assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. She will discuss "Nurses at the Bedside: A Critical Role in Patient Outcomes and Hospital Quality."

        Other presenters include M. Joyce McDonough, RN, MSN, CWOCN, who will discuss "Pressure Ulcer Prevention: Never Event" and Anthony. M. Perry, M.D., who will conduct a session on "Inpatient Glucose Management." Sonia Sandhaus, MSN, CPNP,GNP, FNP, will present "Creating a Cornerstone for Geriatric Care." "Protecting Patients form Hospital Acquired Infection: Bundles and Protocols" will be conducted by Janet Zelna RN, BSN, CCRN. Doris Ann Keating, RN, MSN, CCRN, will conduct a session on Improving "Cardiac Performance through Evidence Based Practice."

        The program is sponsored by Community Medical Center, Mercy Health Partners, Moses Taylor Hospital and the Alumni Society of The University of Scranton, and is a collaborative effort of Scranton's Department of Nursing, Office of Alumni Relations, University Relations, and the Center for Professional Training and Development.
        Program Planning Committee included:  Mae Muraswski, nursing human resource coordinator for The Jewish Home of Eastern PA; Cheryl A. Burke, director of quality at Mercy Health Partners and University of Scranton committee members Marian L. Farrell, Ph.D., and Mary Jane DiMattio, Ph.D., from the Department of Nursing; Lynn King Andres from Office of Alumni Relations; Lisa Bauman from University Relations; and Michele E. Davis from the Center for Professional Training and Development.
