Graduates Commissioned as Second Lieutenants
Thirteen members of The University of Scranton’s Class of 2011 along with graduates of several area colleges were commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army during a ceremony held recently on campus. The University of Scranton ROTC graduates who were commissioned at the ceremony are Andrew Baker, Milford, N.J.; Karen Buchheister, Baltimore, Md.; Caroline Durbin, Shippensburg; Michael Faherty, Stroudsburg; Danielle Mallard, Goshen, N.Y.; Sara Mathewson, Alexandria, Va.; Christopher Mead, Ridgewood, N.J.; Sean Milde, Succasunna, N.J.; Timothy Moore, Stroudsburg; Christopher O’Neill, Honesdale; Theodore Skordinsky, Saddle Brook, N.J.; Ryan Snyder, Palmyra; and Nicholas Westendorf, Colts Neck, N.J.
In addition to the University of Scranton graduates, Corey Carr, Chinchilla, of Keystone College, La Plume; Matthew DeGroft, Portland, Maine, of Baptist Bible College, Clarks Summit; Michael Maritato, Honesdale, of Marywood University, Scranton; and Jeffrey Mason, Stroudsburg, of East Stroudsburg University, East Stroudsburg; were also commissioned at the ceremony.
Dunmore native Brigadier General Christopher Burne, staff judge advocate at Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va., served as guest speaker and delivered the oath of office to the cadets.
