University Celebrates Student Research Scholars

More than 60 University of Scranton undergraduate and graduate students will present their scholarly research projects at the annual Celebration of Student Scholars on Tuesday, May 1, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the McIlhenny Ballroom of the DeNaples Center.

Students will display their work conducted by collaboration with faculty in poster presentations, as well as through oral presentations.

Among the more than 30 research projects to be presented are “Sleep and Academic Performance in College Students” by nursing major Jillian D’Eramo ’12 and Mary Jane DiMattio, Ph.D., associate professor of nursing; “Analysis of Popcorn for Antioxidant Capacity and Identification of Polyphenols” by chemistry major Michael Coco ’13 and Joe Vinson, Ph.D., professor of chemistry; “Comparison of IBM SPSS and R for Conducting Multiple Regression Analysis” by psychology major Kaitlyn Facciponti ’13 and Thomas Hogan, Ph.D., professor of psychology; and “Characterization of the Role of Mechanism of the Novel Chromosome-Binding Protein Verspera” by biochemistry, cell and molecular biology major Abbe Clark ’12, Hiro Funabiki, Ph.D., Rockefeller University, and Timothy Foley, Ph.D., professor of chemistry.

Fields of research that will be presented are biology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, chemistry, communication, computing sciences, environmental science, economics and finance, education, English, health administration, history, marketing management, neuroscience, nursing, occupational therapy, and physics and electrical engineering.
