The University of Scranton will host a screening of the recently released documentary “The Voice of John” on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Moskovitz Theater of the DeNaples Center on campus. A panel discussion will immediately follow. The event is offered free of charge and is open to the public.

The pro-life documentary was produced by Donald Galade and Maryann Lawhon, a resident of Drums. The film, directed by Christopher Peiser Sr., was released in November 2011. It depicts “ a forensic view into the pro-life movement from 1973 to date,” and shows “the real truth regarding abortion and euthanasia from the perspective of those who know it best; the doctors, nurses, clergy, scientists and politicians,” according to the film’s website. The site also states that the film fulfills a promise Lawhon made 35 years ago while working as a nurse in an obstetrics unit of a veteran’s hospital, after stumbling “upon a live baby, placed in a dirty utility room, left to die.” She promised the baby, who she baptized as John, that his voice would be heard.

The event is sponsored by the University’s Campus Ministry Office. Free parking is available for those attending the screening in the University’s Parking Pavilion on Mulberry Street.

For more information, call the University’s Campus Ministry Office at 941-7419.
