University of Scranton Plans 2013 Family Weekend

More than 2,000 family members of University students will participate in Family Weekend Friday, Sept. 20, to Sunday, Sept. 22.

The weekend includes a number of events both on- and off-campus. In addition, more than 20 downtown restaurants are offering discounts or other special incentives to participants. A list of participating businesses can be found on the Family Weekend website.

Friday evening events include a wine tasting at 7:45 p.m. and late night family bingo, beginning at 9:15 p.m. In addition, University Players will present “The 39 Steps” Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday’s events include a 5k Royals Run to benefit Scranton athletic teams at 10 a.m. at Nay Aug Park, a Student Activities Fair on the Dionne Campus Green, Scranton’s “Got Spirit” showcase of student club performances, Mass and other events. In addition, the Lackawanna County College Battle of the Bands will take place beginning at 5 p.m. at Court House Square. Also, Performance Music will present “IN RECITAL” featuring organist Gregory Zelek at 7:30 p.m. in the Houlihan-McLean Center.

Sunday events include “Everything You Ever Wanted to Ask a Jesuit,” hosted by Vice President of University Mission and Ministry Richard Malloy, S.J., which focuses on ways the University encourages students to think about their own spirituality.
