On Friday, Feb. 12, at 7:30 p.m., Performance Music at The University of Scranton will present a recital featuring internationally acclaimed soloists Trevor Nuckols, horn, and David Ball, organ. The performance in the University’s Houlihan McLean Center is open to the public and admission is free.

The New York Times has hailed Nuckols as “outstanding” and an “excellent soloist.” He won first prize at The International Horn Society’s Premiere Soloist Competition, The Juilliard Concerto Competition, The IHS Barry Tuckwell Award, Music Academy of the West Concerto Competition and was honored as the first recipient of the Jerome Ashby Scholarship, presented by The Juilliard School. He gave the New York premiere of Oliver Knussen’s Horn Concerto in Alice Tully Hall with The Juilliard Orchestra. He has been featured as a soloist with the Music Academy of the West’s Academy Festival Orchestra, Sarasota Orchestra and the Doctor’s Orchestral Society of New York. He has performed as guest principal horn with The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Symphony in C, the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra and the Axiom Ensemble. He has participated in the Sarasota Music Festival, New York String Orchestra Seminar, Music Academy of the West, the Pacific Music Festival, Tanglewood Music Center and the Lucerne Festival Academy.

Nuckols began studying horn at the age of 12 under the tutelage of Michael Corcoran, and furthered his studies at the Interlochen Arts Academy with Gene Berger where he won the Young Artist Award. He received his bachelor’s degree from The Juilliard School, and is pursuing his Master of Music degree as a Kovner Fellow. He is a student of R.J. Kelley.

Ball is also a well-lauded performer. The New York Times declared his appearance in Juilliard’s 2014 FOCUS! Festival “a rousing performance.” His 2013 performance of Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in a minor in Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall was broadcast on American Public Media’s nationally-syndicated radio program “Pipedreams” and his segment of the 2014 WQXR Bach Marathon was streamed on WQXR-FM, New York City’s classical radio station.

Ball performs solo recitals across the country, as well as duet recitals with Dr. John Romeri on the largest musical instrument ever built – the Boardwalk Hall Organ in Atlantic City. He is also a sought after collaborator and appears frequently with numerous soloists, chamber groups, and orchestras. He has won numerous awards and honors, recently performed a recital at the AGO convention in St. Louis, and will perform as an AGO Rising Star at the 2016 National AGO Convention in Houston.

In addition, Ball is dedicated to creating liturgical music of the highest caliber. In New York City, he serves as the assistant musician at St. Malachy’s - The Actors’ Chapel in Times Square, and he previously served as organ scholar to the landmark Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis as an organ student of Dr. John A. Romeri, and accompanied the Cathedral Basilica’s choirs in performances across the country and in Rome, Italy.

A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Ball received his Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School. He is currently pursuing his Master of Music degree there under the tutelage of Paul Jacobs.
