Area Students Win Earth Day Essay Contest
Three students from Holy Cross High School won the high school division of Earth Day Essay Contest at The University of Scranton. Students from Mid Valley Secondary Center and Holy Rosary Elementary School won in the 7th and 8th grade division of the contest.
Holy Cross High School students Emma Connolly of Mayfield, Brigit Coolican of Carbondale and Ashlynn Cox of Scranton placed first, second and third, respectively, in the 9th through 12th grade level of the contest. Christopher Talluto and Lanie Gray from Mid Valley Secondary Center and Jessica Bressman from Holy Rosary Elementary School, placed first, second and third, respectively, in the 7th and 8th grade level of the contest.
The University of Scranton and the Pennsylvania American Water sponsored the annual essay contest. This year’s essay theme was “Climate Change, A Time for change.”
All essay submissions were showcased at an Evening of Environmental Science event held in the Atrium of the Loyola Science Center. The event included refreshments and interactive science experiments and displays presented by University students.
