University Presents 49th Annual Noel Night Concert as Gift to Greater Scranton Community

Nov 18, 2016

The University of Scranton Singers, joined by trumpeter Mark Gould and pianist Ron Stabinsky, will present the 49th annual Noel Night on Saturday, Dec. 3, in the Houlihan-McLean Center.

The performance begins at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 6:50 p.m. Prelude music will begin at 7 p.m. featuring small instrumental ensembles of woodwind, brass and string instruments. Admission to the performance is free and open to the public, as The University of Scranton’s Christmas gift to the community. Seating is available on a first-come, first-seated basis.

The 60-voice mixed choir will perform works by J. C. Bach, Charpentier, Handel, Whitacre, Randol Alan Bass, Rutter, Dilworth and others. During the course of the performance, the Nativity Martyrology and St. Luke Nativity Narrative will be read, a yearly tradition at Noel Night.

Gould and Stabinsky have performed at the University many times. Most recently, Gould, who served as principal trumpet of the Metropolitan Opera for more than 30 years and is a member of the faculty at The Juilliard School and Manhattan School of Music, taught at the 2016 Scranton Brass Seminar and performed here last year with both his brass students from the Manhattan School of Music and his chamber group, The New York Trumpet Ensemble. Stabinsky, who is one of the most sought after freelance pianists in the Northeast and has performed throughout the world, is particularly well known for his versatility, performing as a solo, ensemble and collaborative pianist in concerts and events spanning a wide variety of genres. He is also the pianist for the critically and popularly acclaimed and wildly diverse jazz group “Mostly Other People Do The Killing.”
