A prayer as we begin our semester
Sent to Members of the University Community by Rev. Herbert B. Keller, S.J., Interim President
I hope that you had a restful and enjoyable summer. It is truly my privilege to welcome you to campus for the 2017-18 academic year.
We have much for which to be grateful as we begin this year-long journey together. It is an honor to work with our faculty and staff this year as we strive to fulfill our mission, and support our students as they achieve their goals.
The recent disturbing events in Charlottesville remind us in a more urgent way of the need for the transformative education offered on our campus. All of our hearts need to be transformed by the clarion challenge of the message of Jesus to love and respect one another. Racism, bigotry, hatred, and anti-Semitism are antithetical to the values of the Gospel and the values of this Catholic and Jesuit University.
I pray that we all experience transformed hearts and minds through our work, study, prayer, and reflection together here at the University. I pray that our converted hearts might be placed in the service of the transformation of our world that was at the heart of the vision of Saint Ignatius of Loyola.
May God bless you as you begin the semester, and may God continue to bless The University of Scranton.
Sincerely,
Rev. Herbert B. Keller, S.J.
Interim President
