The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center and the Office of Community and Government Relations will offer a virtual Lunchtime Seminar, “COVID-19 and the Economy: A Local and Regional Perspective” on September 28 from 12 – 12:45 p.m. via Zoom. During this virtual presentation, Dr. Satyajit Ghosh, Professor of Economics in the Kania School of Management, will provide a local, regional, and national perspective on the economy in light of the continued public health crisis caused by the global pandemic of COVID-19.

Dr. Ghosh has been teaching at the Kania School of Management at The University of Scranton since 1986 and has served as the Chair of the Economics and Finance department at the University for sixteen years. An expert in the areas of Economic Development, Economic Theory and Policy, Satyajit is a regular contributor to the Scranton Times Tribune and a regular participant of the Annual Economics Roundtable hosted by the Scranton Times.

What some hoped would be just a temporary economic blip followed by recovery has proven to be an ongoing situation that has placed the American economy in the most challenging position since the Great Depression. As the pandemic is predicted to continue into the cooler weather and accompanying flu season, there are looming concerns of what the ongoing public health crisis and potential further shutdown measures will mean for the economy. This seminar will take a closer look at where our local and regional economies currently stand in relation to the national economic outlook and discuss what to expect in the months ahead. This event will offer an opening presentation by Dr. Ghosh followed by a question and answer session with attendees.

This lunchtime seminar event is open to members of both the University of Scranton and the broader Scranton area communities. The seminar will be held on Zoom from 12:00 – 12:45 PM on September 28. Registration is required here. For more information and to submit questions in advance of the event, please contact elizabeth.geeza@scranton.edu.

The event is a collaboration of the University of Scranton Office of Community and Government Relations and The University of Scranton Small Business Development Center (SBDC), which provides educational programs and no cost, confidential consulting services to entrepreneurs looking to start a small business or grow an existing small business in Bradford, Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Tioga, Wayne, and Wyoming Counties in Pennsylvania. For additional information, visit the SBDC Web Site or email sbdc@scranton.edu
